First Bite: Bacon Bros. Public House- Sugar Land, TX (Closed)

So Saturday was a busy day: 2 mile walk at the park, shower, choir rehearsal at church, then on to spend the rest of the day with my mama. Mama wanted to upgrade her cell phone and wanted me to go with her and that’s when the rest of the day took a “Couple of Forevers” (great Chrisette Michele song by the way–yes, there is a song for everything) to end.  So while she determined which color Iphone she wanted–then case- then cover-then the TRANSFER OF data from phone to phone (yes, I know it’s all in her cloud–she knows it’s in her cloud, but what she didn’t know was her PASSWORD–OHH–EEMM–GEE–guess that was in her cloud), I decided to find somewhere to have a late lunch because my stomach was eating its way through my back.. So we were in Sugar Land, close to Sugar Land Town Center, and I wanted to go somewhere we both have never been:

“Mama, you been to Jupiter?”
“Yup. You wanna go to Songkran?”
“Nope. We’ve been there so let’s try something new.”

So as she goes on the search for her new case and while she’s still having data transferred from her old phone to the new one, I get on the 20% left of my battery to find a spot.  So we, or rather I, decide on Bacon Bros Public House because what doesn’t sound better than Bacon–it’s an all day food–not just for breakfast.   So I make a reservation for 4:30 pm  make that 5:00 pm  (this transfer of data)– 5:30 pm via the Open Table App. New phone, new case and cover in hand, Mama and I head to the car to finally go and eat.

We were seated quickly and sent all the way towards the back of the restaurant near the bathroom which is a NO NO for my mom and me in a rather empty restaurant–we don’t understand why we’re sent to the back, however, we always request what we want–“Baby”, my mama said, “May we sit as this booth near the window–we’d like to see the sunset.”.. that’s her nice of way of saying, “Nobody puts baby in the corner” –in this case near the restroom unwarranted. I digress. We had the sweetest server–she was awesome.  She walked us through the menu and Mom and I made our decisions: She took on the Hot Chicken Sandwich– I took the Breakfast for Supper.

The Hot Chicken Sandwich (pictured above from my 15% left and no flash operation cell phone camera) includes pimento cheese, pickles, Nashville style hot sauce served on local Kraftsman Bakery white bread according to the manager Mike.  So it sounds strange to have pimento cheese on top of a fried chicken breast, however, I like them both separate so they should be great together right?  They were. Oh, how I loved it on top of this sandwich!  It wasn’t melted on the sandwich, which was fine by me, and the pickles and sauce all made it go well on that good white bread.  I will admit the fried chicken breast was high on the salt and very low on the spice–and I don’t like a ton of spicy foods.  They do offer their own hot sauce on the table that will give you the spice you’re looking for, according to my mama, but I was fine without it.

This is the Breakfast for Supper that I’d ordered.  This was so perfect because I really was craving something breakfast like since I’d missed brunch( oh how I love a good brunch) due to my busy schedule.   This plate of perfection includes bacon (the good thick kind–4 strips too), two herb biscuits covered in sausage gravy, savory grits, and two cage free eggs cooked to your liking.  So, have you ever noticed that when you haven’t eaten in a LONG TIME, your eyes are always bigger than your stomach?! Well, mine were so I had food to take home.  I would love the two little biscuits to be combined into one medium sized biscuit but I wouldn’t change anything else on that plate.  I noticed that there were not salt and pepper shakers on the table, I know it’s a “thing” however I usually request it because the food isn’t seasoned to my liking, but I didn’t need to request it.  My eggs and my grits, which I usually have to “doctor up” a bit with seasoning, didn’t require any assistance–they were perfect “as served”.. #happytummy.

So if you’re in Sugar Land, definitely go and try your “first bite” at Bacon Bros.

If you’ve tried it already, what did you eat?  What did you think?

Until the next bite!

Miss B.
